An image editing software are used by professionals and non-professionals alike to fix and edit photos.  Many businesses use the software to do some neat tricks to create image rich websites (like this one) or company branding images.

Adobe Photoshop is the industry standard photo editing software.  But with a price tag reaching $1,000 unless you are a serious editor this is not a wise use of your business resources.

But fortunately there are many ways to download Adobe Photoshop for free – legally.  You have several options:

• You can download their free 30-day trial.  So for a one time user, this is a great opportunity to take the software for a test drive to see if this is something you want to use in the long run.  Click here for review and download.
• You can download their scaled back version, Adobe Element, for a fraction of the cost.  While this is not a free alternative, it is a great way to get 90% of Adobe Photoshop functionality for 10% of the cost.  Click here for review and download.
• You can download their student version of Adobe Photoshop.  Again, while this is not a free alternative it is a great way to get the FULL version of Adobe Photoshop for 80% of the cost.  Reading through their FAQ you would simply need to have kids that are enrolled in school or you could simply take a class down at the local community college to be considered a student (consult adobe.com for eligibility).  Click here to download the academic version.
• You can sign-up for a free Adobe Express account.  Adobe Express is a free Adobe Photo Sharing community.  You can touch-up, tweak, tint, and tune your photos.  This is a basic image editing software used for cleaning up your digital camera photos to share with your family and friends.  Click here to setup a free Adobe Express Account.
• You can download Paint.Net, a souped-up version of Windows Paint.  Paint.Net is not your basic photo editing program.  Not only can you fix red-eye, blurs, light, color, etc but it has layer capabilities.  Layer tools are usually only found in expensive, complicated, professional tools.   Paint.Net is a great beginners photo editing tool for non-professionals.  Click here for review and download.
• You can download GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program), the open source alternative of Adobe Photoshop.  GIMP is a completely free photo editing software that rivals the power and usability of Adobe Photoshop.  GIMP is an advanced photo editing tool for non-professionals.  The cons to GIMP is that because it is open source everything may not be ready to go “out of the box.”  If you go to GIMP.org you will need considerable technical experience to setup and install.  However, there are installations that are ready to go out of the box.  Click here for review and download.

Above are the different methods you can use to download Adobe Photoshop for Free (legally).  But even though I gave you this free to low cost methods, my recommendation would be just to hire someone.  Unless you enjoy photo editing or you have somebody on your team that does, there is a tremendous learning curve.  It’s one thing to have the software, but it’s another thing to have the know how to actually edit.
